History of Tsinghua University –Yuncol e-learning Lab E-portfolio Assessment (TEA) Program
1、In the April of 2000, Tsinghua-Yuncol(Chinese name Yunzhou) E-learning Lab was established; Zongkai Shi (a deputy general secretary of Tsinghua University) is the director of the lab and Dr. Feng Han is the executive director. (Opening ceremony: President Binglin Gu (Dean of Graduate School of 1998 -2000) and provost Minsheng Wu participated in the Lab opening ceremony). It was determined that the "E-portfolio Program" was the main research direction of the lab.

2.The first “E-portfolio Assessment” summer camp was held in Tsinghua University in the July of 2000 and was reported in the Evening news in channel CCTV.

3、In the September of 2000, “E-portfolio Assessment” system developed by Tsinghua-Yuncol E-learning Lab was identified and approved by the experts of the Ministry of Education. “E-portfolio Assessment” conforms to the current education reform trend, and may become an breakthrough point in the effort to shift from examination-oriented education to holisticoriented one. 4.In the September of 2000, 3 students from high school affiliated to Fudan University was recommended and accepted by Tsinghua University through the "E-portfolio Assessment".
5.In the December of 2000, National Education Examinations Authority issued <The latter about supporting Tsinghua-Yuncol’s innovative E-portfolio assessment system>.

6.In the April of 2000, the Memorandum of Understanding for ThinkQuest programs in the Peoples Republic of China between ThinkQuest, Inc. and Tsinghua University, Yuncol E-learning Lab was signed and Tsinghua-Yuncol was granted to be ThinkQuest partner in China.

7、The second “E-portfolio Assessment” summer camp was held in the July of 2001. Seventeen out of the total of 86 participated students, who won at least three stars in the evaluation and recommended by professors, were been accepted by top universities (such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, etc).

8.To ensure the students essays are not plagiarize, in the September of 2001, Tsinghua-Yuncol e-learning lab jointed the Department of Computer Science and Technology and the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Tsinghua university to start the development of “E-portfolio Writing Style recognition and Assessment System”
9.Hao Zuo from Tai Yuan Experimental High School represented China won the first prize of ThinkQuest E-portfolio Assessment competition (5000 USD) first time in February 2002. And Tsinghua-Yuncol E-learning Lab held the awarding ceremony in Tsinghua University.
10.In the March of 2002, Beijing Municipal Commission of Education specified “E-portfolio Assessment and spoken English Learning System” to be the social officials’ English learning system.
11.In the May of 2002, “E-portfolio Spoken English Assessment” was supported by Shijingshan Commission of Education and was successfully used in the senior high schools entrance examination of Shijingshan district.

12.<Southern Weekly> and <Chinese Education news> published full-page reports about “Tsinghua-Yuncol ?E-portfolio Assessment System” on May the 23th and July the 5th of 2002 respectively.
13.In the September of 2002, E-portfolio Writing Style Recognition and Assessment System was successfully tested and launched. , Professor Guoyin Huang from Tsinghua University Department of Chinese Language and Literature wrote the <IndividualLlanguage Writing Style Automatic Identification System>
14.In the December of 2002, Nicole M, the vice president of ORACLE, visited the Tsinghua-Yuncol E-learning Lab and formally declared that the HELP US HELP education foundation of ORACLE Company will give financial assistance to the International E-portfolio Assessment Competition-ThinkQuest.

15.On 16th January, 2003, president Binglin Gu (was the vice president at that time) highly appreciated Tsinghua-Yuncol e-learning Lab’s achievement over the past few years. He instructed that the "E-portfolio Assessment" is suitable to be used as a reference in the Tsinghua University self-determined admission.

16.In the July 2002, the director of National Education Examinations Authority Lianghong Zhao visited the Tsinghua-Yuncol E-learning lab, accompanied by the party standing committee Yongyi Bai. He examined the “E-portfolio Spoken English Assessment System” and was very impressed by the capability of? the system.
17. Ministry of Education Examinations Authority. Since 2004, the “E-portfolio spoken English Assessment” of TEA has been used for spoken English test of Tianjing college entrance examination.
18. In the September of 2003, Tsinghua-Yuncol “E-portfolio Assessment” program was launched in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjing and other areas in China. Tsinghua University self-determined admission started to use the TEA.

19.In the December of 2003, Tsinghua –Yuncol’s “Web-base Innovative Talents Selecting and Training System” (Hereinafter referred to E-portfolio Assessment) was listed in the National Tenth Five-Year Plan as a key project.

Tsinghua University admission office and Yuncol e-learning Lab. organized this project and Tsinghua-Yuncol E-learning Lab developed and provided technical support to it.
21.E-portfolio spoken English Assessment was successfully used in the junior high school graduate examinations in Beijing Haidian, Shijingshan district and Shanghai Pudong, Jingan district and in Tianjing college entrance examination.
22.In the June of 2004, admission office? of Tsinghua University sent a notice to 200 key high schools in China? about E-portfolio Assessment. “Students who enroll in the e-portfolio assessment program will realize their own strengths and weaknesses by communicating with professors and through discussions with each other. This enable students to learn and interest in in-depth thinking, inspire them to have a multi-angle thinking. Therefore the first benefit toparticipate in the program? is an education of innovation. The second benefit is that Tsinghua University will refer to the professors’ recommendation index of participated students to select top students into the self-determined admission winter camp. First and second year high school students’ e-portfolio will be saved till the end of high school and the outstanding students will be given the chance to take part in the Tsinghua University’s self-determined admission winter camp. In the January of 2004, 10 outstanding students won that chance. ”
23.In the October of 2004, Tsinghua-Yuncol E-portfolio spoken English Assessment was rewarded with? the Science and Technology Achievement Certification from the National Ministry of Education.

24.In the December of 2004, 20 students from key high schools in Texas of United States of America worked with students who are in E-portfolio assessment as a team to join the TQ international competition and planning the scheme of founding a web-side.

25.In the May of 2005, Feng Han (Sunny) Executive director of Tsinghua-Yuncol e-learning lab attended the ThinkQuest annual conference in Italy.

26.On February the 21st, 2006,one of the key projects in the Tenth Five-Year Plan—“Web-based Innovative Talents Selecting and Training System” project was successfully completed after being certified by the Experts Committee. Tianshan Zeng , the vice director of the Nation Office for Education Sciences Planning awarded the certification of the completion of the? project to the project manager Junfeng Zong.

27.2007-2009, TEA Program was partnership with many key high school in China to help them to assess the students by the e-portfolio.
